Spyderco's popular Chaparral series is a celebration of both consistency and artistic diversity. The latest addition to this elite family, the Chaparral Sun & Moon, not only continues this proud tradition but in many ways, it's also a perfect visual metaphor for its central theme.
The Sun & Moon is the first expression of the Chaparral to feature G10 Handle Scales. However, unlike ordinary G10-handled knives, it showcases both a two-toned format and painstakingly executed inlays in both sides of the handle. The white scale on the reverse side is inlaid with a contrasting red G10 insert. The obverse side features a black scale accented by a genuine Mother of Pearl inlay. Both inlays are perfect circles and are seamlessly fitted into their respective scales before being sanded smooth and polished. The result is a stunning design that is reminiscent of the Yin and Yang—the ancient Chinese philosophical symbol that represents the concept of duality in nature. Hard and soft, male and female, light and dark, sun and moon, the concept of Yin and Yang reminds us that all opposites are both interconnected and interdependent in the natural world.
Like all members of the family, it features a full-flat-ground leaf-shaped blade with outstanding edge geometry for near-effortless cutting performance. Precision machined from Carpenter Technology's CTS XHP Stainless Steel, the satin-finished Blade has a 50/50 index-finger choil and opposing thumb ramp—both with non-slip jimping—that allow a forward-positioned grip for extreme control. It also proudly includes Spyderco's signature Trademark Round Hole™, which is equally accessible from both sides to allow easy one-handed opening with either hand.
To support the knife's breathtaking scales and its sturdy Back Lock Mechanism, its handle is built with a Stainless Steel Backspacer. Its screw-together construction ensures the precise alignment and tensioning of all parts, as well as the attachment of a reversible deep-pocket wire clip. Easily configurable for left or right-side, tip-up carry, the clip provides the perfect balance of discreet carry and quick access. It also complements the knife's symmetrical design to make every aspect of its carry and operation completely ambidextrous.

About CTS-XHP Steel:
Carpenter Technology Corporation has developed an alloy known as CTS-XHP, an air hardening, high carbon, high chromium, corrosion resistant alloy which can be described as either a high hardness Type 440C stainless steel or a corrosion resistant D2 tool steel. This steel is made using powder metallurgy and possesses corrosion resistance equivalent to Type 440C Stainless but can attain a maximum hardness of 64 HRC which is approaching that of D2 Tool Steel. This alloy offers superior edge retention and surface finish, an ability to be machined to a fine edge, and consistent heat-treatability from lot to lot making it ideal material for knife blades.
