Knife Description:
The Japanese Higonokami Knife is a Piemontais type Folder, with a tradition of over 160 years of manufacturing. The blade San Mai is a sandwich of three layers whose heart is a steel disk, Shirogami or Aogami with a very high carbon content and a Rockwell Hardness of 60 to 64-66 HRC.
Higonokami Knives have been loved for a long time by a lot of persons all over the world.
Motosuke Nagao is an expert blacksmith in the 4th generation who makes Higonokami folders in Japan. He is a blacksmith in the Hyogo Prefecture Miki City, the traditional birthplace of the Higonokami knife.
A traditional Higonokami knife is hand forged out of triple-layered SK Carbon Steel. The 4 cm Blade has a Blade Thickness of 2.4 mm and is hardened to 60-64 on the Rockwell Scale.
Its inverted Tanto Blade Shape is balanced with a handle of the same width, which gives the knife a simple, streamlined shape. When closed, the blade is entirely sheathed by the handle. The genuine Brass Handle is stamped with Kanji bearing the maker’s name and the blade material. The result is a traditional Japanese-style pocketknife with a beautiful aesthetic that stands the test of time.
These knives are extremely popular in Japan and could be considered as the Japanese Douk-Douk, Opinel or Mercator pocket knife.
Because the Higonokami Folders are relatively light and flat, they are great for the pants pocket. Their robustness makes them exceptional for any toolbox. Neat tools for sure.
Handforged in Japan.
