A Wetterlings is not only an Axe – it’s a Friend for Life.
About Wetterlings:
For over 100 years Wetterlings have made axes. Wetterlings axes are tools of the highest quality in terms of durability and performance.
All Wetterlings Axes are handforged from Swedish Quality Steel.
Hand Forging uses presses that deliver many blows, making an axe stronger than if they were drop forged. The special Axe alloy used by Wetterlings makes high quality hardening possible.
After grinding, hardening and tempering the Wetterlings Axes keep a Rockwell Hardness of 57 – 58. These are the main reasons why Wetterlin Axes hold a keen edge with good ‘sting’ longer than most axes.
The Handles are lathed from American Hickory, the best choice for good Axe Handles.
Today 10 blacksmiths proudly continue the tradition of producing world class axes. This means that not one axe is the same as the other and every axe that leaves the factory in Sweden has its own unique character and bears its own distinguishing mark.
Axe Description:
The Wetterlings broad axe measures 69 cm in length and provides plenty of swing and power when you deliver the final blow.
The axe head is 19 cm wide and has an 18.5 cm cutting width. Each axe head is made using a blend of Swedish steel that has been alloyed using Iron, Silicon, Manganese, Carbon and also Vanadium.
They had forge each axe head so that a really hard edge is achieved. This edge is traditionally far stronger than a drop forged axe head. Due to the way they make each axe head, they enjoy a Rockwell hardness rating of 57-58 HRC.
The handle is of prime American Hickory Wood and securely fitted in the eye of the axe with wooden and steel wedges. Hickory is the preferred handle because it has great stress capacity and can withstand hard regular use without failing.
The Wetterlings Broad Axe is supplied with a protective Sheath made out of tanned Leather to help protect the cutting edge from accidental damage and to help keep you safe when not in use.
